Polls have been closed for 20 minutes, but it seems nobody did an exit poll so there's no way to tell what happened except to actually wait for the results to come in. How terrible.

Maybe Luke Esser's counting the Democratic votes too.
The Atlantic should send you to Hawaii in '12 address this election coverage shortfall.
What is the virtue of MSNBC and CNN both rerunning their 9pm-11pm coverage twice tonight? Why not take a feed from a local Hawaii channel?
Election result shenanigans in WA? Never! Hawaii results should start rolling in any minute now. Between the caucus and the inaugural Pan-Pacific Championship soccer tournament, I really should have found an excuse to be in Hawaii this week. Could have done GOTV today and then dropped by Aloha Stadium to boo Becks and the Galaxy tomorrow.
Th Honolulu Advertiser is reporting that turnout was overwhelming, and that ass a result, some sites won't be done voting until 10pm Island time. That's 3am ET
I've just decided Hawaii doesn't count. I'm going to bed.
I'm just back from voting in the Hawaii caucus. Huge turnout -- I would guess 6-8 times greater than when I went in 2004. The party was expecting triple the 2004 turnout, but not this. I arrived 45 minutes early, at 6:15, and there were about 200 people ahead of me. I finally voted at 7:30, and when I left there were probably 500 more in line behind. If I had to guess from t-shirts, overheard talk, etc., I would guess 80% were for Obama in my relatively affluent, haole (Caucasian) community. So no results until midnight, I would guess, but then big for Obama.
The lack of coverage and the time difference makes it feel like we're waiting on results from a remote outpost of empire. Which, in a way, I guess we are.
Speaking of, when's the al-Basra primary?
If, as has been alleged, the singular form of 'data' is 'anecdote', according to a handful of firsthand reports at The Daily Kos (admittedly a hotbed of Obama supporters) Hawai'i will go very strongly for Obama.
southpaw - MSNBC and CNN are cheap asses who don't want to pay to have a nightshift. If the bean counters can save a nickel in overhead, they will. Is it too hard to put some of the "best political team on television" on the late shift to cover live political news?
Short answer: Yes, it's too hard.
The washington secretary of state has results here. They suggest that all the vote is in...
Ah, spiff. Thanks, BR.
So, okay. There were a bit under 500,000 votes cast in the primary (498,231), and Obama got 50%. Meanwhile, we know there were a minimum of 200,000 participants in the party caucus (no exact numbers were given, so it could be higher). We know Obama got at least 67% of that (again, no exact numbers on voter preference). Some rough, back of the envelope math, then, suggests that Obama received at least 54.8% of all the votes cast in Washington state for the Democratic contest.
I think we can safely give him this state at this point.
Obama'08!
Add another anecdatum: turnout for my state legislative district was huge (as in over half the previous statewide turnout record; there are 51 legislative districts) and there were an awful lot of Obama t-shirts, stickers, etc. in the crowd. It will be a while for results, but when they come in the local boy will do just fine.
good lord when do you guys sleep? here's a hawaiian bone to chew on...i caucused on the big island a couple hours ago; my precinct has a large percentage of retirees (white)... believe it or no many if not most of them were sporting obama buttons an seemed pretty enthusiastic about him as were the local folk.
no prince, did you see the OBAMA WOULD GO t's?
honolulu advertiser; results 10% in 77% obama
Yeah, I am seeing the same thing. Results trickling in and it is 75% + for Obama. Currently checking MSNBC and Politico. This is going to be a blowout for Obama.
Stick a fork in Hillary, she's done. Netroots: 1, DLC: nada.
Huge turnout in the islands. My precinct in urban Honolulu had lines around the school where the caucus was held. It dwarfed every previous caucus in memory. Reports from precinct chairs and the news media indicate overwhelming Obama victory. It was exciting to be part of it.
51% in Obama still up at 76%. Is there a mercy rule in primaries? Because if there is it should be called in HI.
jbryan - about 244k turned out for WA caucuses compared to 100k in 2004. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/351973_primaries20.html
I think Obama would have also gotten a larger % of the beauty contest vote if voters didn't have to sign a party oath on their ballots. Declaring a party seems to be anathema to Washingtonians, especially considering the Dem. votes mean nothing for delegages. I'd also be willing to bet a number of people caucused for Obama and then voted for McCain - would explain McCain's (relatively) poor showing in the caucus and his overwhelming victory in the primary (of course he's now the presumptive nominee and that was slightly less certain on the 9th).

Oh, the mercy rule. Ended many a little league game I played in. Of course, I'm not sure there was ever much doubt about how HI would go, just a question of the margin of victory.

Huh?
One thing I noticed about self-identifying "netroots" is that they like to revise history like every 20 minutes.
What happened to Edwards being the netroots choice and Obama and Hillary being the corporate centrist Democratic twins?
What happened to the netroots hating the Obama who dissed the netroots over and over, who should never be forgiven for what he posted at DKos after the Alito confirmation, for what said about netroots and DKos, who was blogged to death for going over to the dark side to give a speech to evangelicals where he "dissed" atheists, etc. etc.
Amazing. "Netroots" can take credit for anything it wants, eh? As long as a candidate gets donations via internet, he can be claimed by "netroots" as a member if they so deem it?
So when Obama starts playing DLC themes in the general election, is that going to all of a sudden be "netroots," too?

Yglesias:
Speaking of DKos, they've got a lot of Hawaii info. over there, sent in by locals.
Hawaii doesn't count because the results took too long to come in. New Mexico does count, including that final delegate who was belatedly awarded to Hillary, because . . .
. . .
. . . processing
. . .
. . . a lot of retired people move to New Mexico right? And who gets more highly represented the older the sample? Old white women!
Juat say no to the crone.
Obama 08!
So, I am wondering since Obama is going to be taking incoming fire from both Clinton and McCain (which certainly has seemed coordinated to me so far)
Is it time to look at the fact that McCain's chief strategist, Charley Black actually works for Mark Penn at Burson-Marsteller Worldwide . . .

So I think there is a distinct possibility they are at least sharing notes if not coordinating to take out a common threat.
"One thing I noticed about self-identifying "netroots" is that they like to revise history like every 20 minutes."
I know, it's awful. Don't they know that the standard waiting period is at least 24 hours?
Scott, or whoever's posting as scott: Seriously, enough with the "crone" shit. We can beat Hillary Clinton on her merits (or lack thereof); no reason to get sexist on us.
Incidentally, CBS News has 100% of the precincts reporting, and it's 76% Obama. For delegate allocation, so far they have Obama 10, Clinton 0. 10 delegates left to distribute.
crone
Scott, are you even old enough to vote?

This has been the case for all of the post-Nevada caucusi, sadly. Meanwhile, what's up with the Washington beauty pageant? It's been stuck at 53% reporting for, like, two hours.
