I prefer to think of it as March 0.

Nah, according to my state of the art IP phone from Nortel it's March 1st.

I'll go with that ;-)

My law school roommate turns eight today.

The birthday of two of my favorite fictional characters.

Quick, somebody turn this into a huge party day, with a theme, and special drinks, and music, and apparel (raiment, garb) and everything.

QUICK!

Not only is it a leap year in the Gregorian calendar, but it's also a leap year in the Hebrew calendar. How often does this coincidence occur?

Will you make exactly the same post four years from now?

It's also an US presidential election year and Olympic summer games year.

I wonder if they made to sync up the Gregorian calendar. Or is just a fluke?

I'm twelve!

Actually Pope Gregory designed the calendar to match up with the Olympic (tm) games and US presidential elections. He was a big fan of the Olympics (tm) and wanted the athletes to have an extra day to prepare. US presidential elections were scheduled to coincide with election years so that vice presidential candidates would have something to do -- if they play water polo.

My only question is:

Do I get paid for working today? Or does my employer get a free ride since this is a "bonus day" on the calendar?

Leap Day is also called the bissextus. (The "second sixth" as in the Roman calendar the extra day came in the form of two sixths before the kalends of March (February 25 - February had 30 days back then).
