It's interesting that even a CPAC audience that provides wild applause for every lame right-wing talking point could barely muster a cheer for McCain's promise to cut entitlement spending.

"cut entitlement spending"

He apparently think he can win without the support of conservatives, young people, or old people.

Ah, so you did make it to the CPAC circus? Good.

Now Starting booing and watch the avalanch.

"In order to destroy, it is necessary first to promote" --Lao Tzu

heh heh

This allegedly is the text of McCain's CPAC remarks: http://www.examiner.com/blogs/Yeas_and_Nays/2008/2/7/Text-of-John-McCains-CPAC-Remarks

I liked the site's preamble: [Said one Yeas & Nays tipster: "It's like a zoo in here[CPAC]. A riot might break out." ]

C'mon, Matthew. Just one little boo. Start the stampede.

Must have been a lot of drug company lobbyists.

Oh. My. God.

This video up at the New York Times web site:

"Matthew Yglesias and Megan McArdle, both bloggers at The Atlantic, debate whether the economy will doom Republicans in November."

Matthew. Matthew. Matthew.

If you needed money, couldn't you have done something dignified? Like
act in a porn movie or something?

The TIMES?

I like this part, where McCain ostensibly argues that each American should enact their own foreign policy rather than letting the government do it:

'Whomever the Democrats nominate, they would govern this country in a way that will, in my opinion, take this country backward to the days when government felt empowered to take from us our freedom to decide for ourselves the course and quality of our lives; to substitute the muddled judgment of large and expanding federal bureaucracies for the common sense and values of the American people; to the timidity and wishful thinking of a time when we averted our eyes from terrible threats to our security that were so plainly gathering strength abroad. '

Yeah! Me an' my buds woulda stopped Al Qaeda if the damn government bureaucrats hadn't stopped us!

It isn't John McCain's politics they hate. It is John McCain they hate. As one Republican put it, she hates McCain because he is "viscious".

"If you needed money, couldn't you have done something dignified? Like act in a porn movie or something?"

Matt isn't good-looking enough...or anyway he lacks a certain something...

Besides, are you suggesting Megan would also have been in said porn movie?

Same problem...

The CPAC crowd were quicker than Maverick himself (or his speechwriter) to notice the section of the speech where he assumed that if he was president, he'd be facing a Democratic Congress.
