"U.S. Struggles to Tutor Iraqis in Rule of Law". Maybe that's because the modern-day Republican Party has had trouble explaining how concepts like "if the president says 'terrorism' a lot it's not really a crime" and "if the companies that broke the law contribute a lot of money to my campaign they should be let off the hook" and "when executive branch officials don't respond to subpoenas you should back them if they're Republicans" translate over into the Iraqi context. it is, after all, a very different culture and society so it's hard to know what the exact parallel would be so some of the wacky adventures in Xtreme Rule of Law the GOP has been experimenting with lately.

Nice snarky post. More like this, please.
You forgot one: "When U.S. attorneys refuse to prosecute the opposition party on trumped-up charges as part of an election strategy, fire them."
You forgot another one: when the President and his cronies knowingly and willingly allow massive violations of U.S. immigration law in order to fatten corporate coffers.....
I suspect Iraqis are having trouble with irregular verbs:
I enhance interrogation
You torture
He massacres
We defend democracy
You hate our freedom
They terrorize
The conjugation is a complex one, and not to be undertaken by new learners of a complex language.
I think the current Iraqi government knows exactly how 'the elected Florida and Michigan delegates should be counted' translates into their context.
Don't forget this week's addition: "car bombs are fine as long as they're killing terrorists".
Maybe Dumbya should send Scooter Libby to Iraq to school "folks" there on how important obeying the law is. He could be their Ethics Shah.
1. Iraqis have better regard for rule of law and lower crime rates than a comperable number of black Americans. Perhaps the FBI should come home from Iraq and focus on instilling respect for law in majority black schools in the USA and better address the corruption and lawbreaking in cities like NOLA.
Their government is even more dysfunctional than the US "pay to play" system, but as individuals, Iraqis have lower murder, theft, burglary, fraud, and armed robbery rates than black Americans, and a considerably lower rape rate.
2. car bombs are fine as long as they're killing terrorists".

Quite so! No different than a 500 lb aircraft bomb, a 155mm shell, sub torpedo, Hellfire missile, or hail of bullets.
Just another weapons delivery system.
What matters, by laws of war, is not the weapon as much as who is on the receiving end.
I'd just like to know how many times chris ford's mom "dated" Wilt Chamberlain.
Matt, just wondering if you see any important difference between Chris Ford's post and what's-his-name using the word "raghead."
MLJ's baiting isn't exactly elevating the thread, either.
What does "comperable" mean?
Yes, those obvious cases of black corruption like Enron, Worldcom, and the current subprime mess. They need to be stopped! And the corruption of black political leaders like Tom Delay...

Which is a great addition to "getting shot in the front of the head for bigoted reasons" is not a sectarian killing.
"Iraqis have better regard for rule of law and lower crime rates than a comperable number of black Americans."
I guess after living in Baltimore I'm ready to go to Iraq. No basic training for me!
Matt, please read Glen Greenwald. The charge that "if the companies that broke the law contribute a lot of money to my campaign they should be let off the hook" applies to a number of Democrats as well. I'm all for taking the Republicans down a notch (or knocking them off the pole), but we can't let the people in our favored party get away with the same BS.
hum bugs: "MLJ's baiting isn't exactly elevating the thread, either."
Nor is your inane little hall monitor act, humster. At least I addressed the subject of the thread in one of my posts, which is more than you even attempted to do.
But with hot busybody skills like yours, you'd be great in the Green Zone teaching Iraqis to "play nice."
Ford: "What matters, by laws of war, is not the weapon as much as who is on the receiving end."
I agree!
Which is why Olmert better watch his ass after having targeted Mughniyeh...along with the head of Mossad.
According to latest reports, Hizballah plans for retaliation in case one of their leaders got hit are being dusted off and updated.
Oh, yeah, they have "contingency plans", too, folks...
In fact, taking this one step further, my guess is that this is how Mossad intends to start the next Lebanon war - by assassinating a Hizballah leader, waiting for the inevitable retaliation, thus allowing Israel to perform its usual psychotic overreaction and murder a few thousand more Lebanese civilians.
At least I addressed the subject of the thread in one of my posts, which is more than you even attempted to do.
Nice hall monitoring yourself there, ace. See you in detention.

Perhaps the Iraqis are confused by the fact that the cheese-eating surrender monkeys are now our fine French friends?
