The Chris Hayes Fraud

05 Feb 2008 04:51 pm

At last, someone has the courage to tell the truth about Chris Hayes and his efforts to destroy democracy:

The truth of the matter is that I think Gravel's right about the desirability of scrapping the constitution.

You know, I really dislike the use of "progressive" in the place of "liberal". Among other things, it makes the Jonah Goldberg-style conflation of the Progressives of the 1920s with contemporary American liberalism that much easier.

My god, he's right! Gravel vs. Paul in '08!

Aren't there a bunch of nuisance candidates on the ballots in states where the threshold for ballot entry is very low? What about all those dudes on Slate's The Fringe? Isn't Gravel committing fraud by not mentioning THEM as viable candidates? For shame.

The real question is, how did this nut get elected to the Senate in the first place? Not that his policies are necessarily all bad, but he's shown himself totally divorced from any sort of reality in this race.

I guess the cynical explanation is that he's just using his easy access into the Presidential Race as an ex-Senator as a way to raise his profile and get higher paid speaking engagements (presumably his main source of income now). But after seeing his insane behavior during the race, I honestly think he's just a nut. Is anyone familiar enough with his time in the Senate to say whether he was always like this?

Well, this is completely hypocritical. If Paul Baldwin feels this strongly how come he never invited Gravel to appear on Coffee Talk?

Who knows if Gravel was this crazy in 1968? I'm going to suggest that senility has set in.

Me too. The theory of progress under which that group understood themselves as "progressive" was constitutively racist.

I'm not a big fan of "liberal" either.

I use "leftist" which obviously isn't the answer in terms of the national conversation, but which I hope has some small effect in bringing back that word for leftist discourse. And in making actual leftism, not mere liberalism, more acceptable and thinkable in the blogosphere.

That is, of course, sort of crazy, but I don't care, I'm a crazy leftist.

All these people voting against Mike Gravel are committing fraud! Don't they know anything about democracy????

Watched Hayes on Washington Journal on C-Span the other day. Terrible.

Screw Gravel. What about Lee Mercer Jr. (all three) ?!? Matt, you are committing fraud by not mentioning him in your post.

How is the guy who made this video not a supporter of Dr. Ron Paul?

He seems an ideal Paul voter.

Maybe he was turned off by the newsletters. Unlikely.

How is the guy who made this video not a supporter of Dr. Ron Paul?

Or worse yet, a supporter of he who must not be named.

How did you happen across this video? It doesn't seem like the kind of thing which would be on people's radar.

'elites like Christopher Hayes'.

hahahhaha.

I don't wanna be all troublesome or anything, but exactly what is Gravel wrong about here?

Eisenhower got it.

Ah yes, this is a quadrennial tradition I always forget, and yet always happens. Every single time. Candidate X is exlcuded from the debate/left off the ballot/etc. Two cheers for democracy. I just tooted a party favor.

Gravel's crazy now, but he did personally end the draft during the Vietnam War and enter the Pentagon Papers into the public record. F'real, check it out:

Gravel might be right about some issues, but let's face it -- he isn't even on the ballot in all the states. In New Jersey, there are six people on the ballot, four of whom have dropped out. Gravel is not one.

Crank candidates are useful, but really....

Is Chris Hayes the older brother of Luke Hayes, the sexy and dynamic organizer for Obama?

Not to mention getting the Alaska Pipeline authorized over environmentalist objections . . .

There was a Mike Gravel video made for YouTube where they dubbed in the "Mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" speech over Gravel's actual debate performance. This was apparently made by a Gravel *supporter*.

Gravel should be angry at his YouTube followers who are making his non-campaign into a complete joke.

Personally I am happy that there are three mainstream candidates the media is offering to choose from. They're all in favor of increasing the Pentagon's budget and building permanent bases in Iraq, like me.

That feels to me like a functioning democracy, since we now know from Pew that a whopping 23% know the Iraq war is going on.

Mission accomplished.

...I think Gravel's right about the desirability of scrapping the constitution.

Are you serious? If this is a joke I apologize for not getting it.

No Kolohe, it's no joke.

Matt pretty seriously believes that (1) the constitution was written by a bunch of rich dead white men, and therefore does a poor job of providing rights (such as the right to free health care) to women and the underprivileged, and (2) he is much smarter than the founding fathers and we would be much better off letting him come up with an alternative. After all, did Madison go to Harvard? I don't think so.
