Ultimate Blogs

Spencer Ackerman thinks he knows what Ultimate Blogs: Masterworks from the Wild Web, a new anthology from The New York Times's Sarah Boxer, is all about but he hasn't even read it yet.

The fact of the matter is that my origin story is tweaked, but only slightly. The major difference in the Ultimate Yglesias continuity concerns my rogue's gallery. Ultimate Jonah Goldberg, for example, isn't a nepotism hire at all, but rather a 100,000 mile long swarm of robotic drones that threatens to destroy all life on earth. It's true to the spirit of the original, but also a pretty bold re-imagining that keeps things interesting even for old-time fans.

This is a bit insidery/self-referential, Matt; I'm a long time reader and I'm not entirely sure what it is you're talking about.

From the advert for Sarah Boxer's book: "The highlights in book format, predictably, are the blogs that maintain relatively tight spelling and grammar standards and focus on subjects beyond the writer's petty complaints. "

I'm astonished that Matthew made the cut.

Do you get royalties from this?

For all of you silly people who don't read comic books, Matthew is making a pun by interpreting the title "Ultimate Blogs" in light of Marvel Comic's Ultimates line, which takes long established series, like the X-Men or Spider-Man, and reimagines and updates them with slick art and changed continuities.

Who says the art is all that slick?

Don't forget the decompression. Ultimate Matt must also obey the Bizarro Faster Feiler Thesis.

I never thought anyone could make Election 2000 work, but that Bendis shocked me once again.

C-cause like, Election 2000 was like the Clone Saga of American politics? Right you guys?

So do your blog posts come in six post arcs? And what about the Clone Saga? Is there a female Yglesias running around out there now?

Yglesias, you are one funny motherfucker. Also, of course, a mile-long swarm of robotic drones, etc., etc.

Oddly enough, Ultimate Sully is straight

"The fact of the matter is that my origin story is tweaked, but only slightly."

Lies. I've seen the galleys for the Ultimate Yglesias cycle, and I can confirm that his new origin story is a substantial departure from the old Atlantic Universe. Specifically, he now claims to have gained his blog powers after falling into radioactive sludge while celebrating his victory in the National Spelling Bee. Totally unconvincing!

The good thing about Ultimate blogs is that you don't have to be reading blogs for 30 years to understand it. I wonder what Ultimate Marty Peretz will be like?

The same! Only... more violent!

I'd say Matt and the Atlantic "Table" series is more closely represented by "Marvel Zombies":
