We Got It For Cheap

House Republicans pissed that standing up for telecom immunity hasn't been the fundraising bonanza they were hoping for. But, of course, it's all about keeping the country safe with them.

It is very hard for be to fathom what was going on inside the head of those unnamed GOP sources who were kvetching to Roll Call about the lack of fundraising love from telcoms. I mean, do they *want* to give the Dems ammunition?

Really, just mind-blowing.

Er, "hard for *me* to fathom..."

Just want to applaud you for this post's title, Matt. Didn't know you listened to the Clipse ;-)

You talk as if the Democrats won't eventually roll over on this one too, as usual.

MY - House Republicans pissed that standing up for telecom immunity hasn't been the fundraising bonanza

If the telecomms had the slush cash that Democrats could legally get from several thousand very rich trial lawyers each meeting McCain-Feingold restrictions, the Democrats would be 1st in line lauding the telecoom's patriotism instead of playing butt boy for the Gulfstream Tort Lawyers.

Republicans just hate Tort Lawyers, Jewish ACLU Lawyers, activist crusading lawyer-judges, anti-male divorce and child custody nests of lawyers.

Its like how Democrats feel about people in uniform.

Republicans: Not Very Good at Corruption, Either

Sadly Mr. Ford, the EFF and ACLU aren't tort lawyers.

Anyway, I can understand perhaps a little bit of the telecom's reluctance as well - the immunity isn't so much for them (the telcos) as it is to protect members of the administration who got them into this mess in the first place. The telcos are busy kissing up to the new guys, looking forward. And if the dems do eventually roll on this, well it's still not helping republican electoral chances this year anyway, and a little slush fund cash isn't going to make a whole lot of difference.

I kind of hope Chris Ford gets horribly mangled in a preventable accident due to negligence on the part of some corporation. Since he hates trial lawyers he won't sue. And he hates "Socialism" so when his insurance runs out he'll just die a deserved death.

"Anyway, I can understand perhaps a little bit of the telecom's reluctance as well - the immunity isn't so much for them (the telcos) as it is to protect members of the administration who got them into this mess in the first place. "

True. A Democratic compromise bill was offered that would reimburse them for damages they had to pay due to illegally cooperating with the government. I bet the telco's would be fine with that, but the Republicans are not. Republicans trying to hide administration wrongdoing might wind up costing the telco's money.

That's the Re-Up anthem...
