Enigmatic Remark of the Day

05 Mar 2008 03:25 pm

Overheard at a local coffee shop: "seventh street is the new eleventh street." I would have said that ninth street is the new fourteenth street, since eleventh is kind of nothing. Oh well.

Maybe seventh street is now kind of nothing.

That and seventh street is pretty desolate, at least between M and Rhode Island.

Perhaps they mean as the outer limit of the Logan Circle Gentrification Zone rather than as a commercial zone.

Neo-philiacs. Gotta love 'em.

So, nuking the old convention center and moving it a block east made that big of a difference?

Maybe they were talking about Annapolis or Fairfax or something. I dunno.

Eleventh is the new bitch, which is the new black.

I remember when 14th Street was the new 16th Street.

Don't let anybody tell you they miss those olden days. These days are way better than those days.

...must make giving directions a *bitch*.

I feel like a monkey amid tabletalk

Henceforth I shall refer to Georgia Ave as "New 11th North."
In the meantime, come on up to Petworth y'all.

Not familiar with DC, but to learn what is the new what, check out this chart.

Yeah, nobody goes to anything on either. SRSLY.

The old Washington shopping institution Woodward & Lothrop ("Woodies") was located on 11th St. But of course Matt wouldn't know anything about that.

"seventh street is the new eleventh street."

Someone just lost four fingers?

Perhaps they mean shopping? As in, rather than hitting up Metro Center hitting up Chinatown? Remember that H & M is on 11th and Urban Outfitters in on 7th. As, come to think of it, various lobbyist oriented upscale restaurants. I get it anyway. Funny though how I assume you were talking about women who said this.

Not necessarily fingers. You need one more thing to count to eleven.
