Retirement Community

Rep. Tom Reynolds from upstate New York is going to announce his retirement which I think brings the total number of retiring House Republicans up to 2 million.

Covering up a Republican colleague's pederasty is one thing, but letting someone steal from Republican campaign coffers is inexcusable.

I live in Rep. Reynolds district and I will miss him like an abscessed tooth.

He's been nothing other than a pandering party hack who nearly lost his last election to a certifiable nut case. There were strong challengers in place even before the latest revelations of financial chicanery.

Goodbye and good riddance.

It WOULD be fun if someone calculated the total population of residents in the districts across the country where GOP Reps are retiring. (I'm too lazy/otherwise employed.)

Using absolutely no research, I estimate 17 million.

The Democrats flipped three Republican seats out of 11 in 2006, and of the three seats with close elections where Republicans won, two are retiring (Reynolds and Walsh).

So in two elections you may see a switch from 4 Dems and 7 Republicans to 9/10 Dems and 1/2 Republicans. Not bad. Then in 2010 we can gerrymander the last Republican out of the region when we lose a seat.

I'm surprised that the resident of NY-29 didn't object to being called an Upstater. I grew up there too and never thought of myself as an Upstater until I moved away. NY-29 is Western New York.
