DCPD recovers original booking log from the investigation of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. It turns out that Lee Harvey Oswald was responsible and John Wilkes Booth little more than a patsy.

...and it was "Et tu Oswald?"

It's not DCPD.

It's MPDC.

Sheesh, I thought you live there.

Nobody (well, except Matt) ever calls the DC police the DCPD. But then, I don't think I've ever heard anyone call it the MPDC either, although the Metropolitan Police Department does apparently use that abbreviation (for Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia), even though its official name appears to be the Metropolitan Police Department.

Ben, you're right, but it's more commonly just the MPD for Metropolitan Police Department.

But it's absolutely not the "DCPD".

Matt's constant use of the non-existent "DCPD" has been driving me crazy for months.

Herschel -- FWIW, their website is mpdc.dc.gov. But I'd never heard "MPDC" until I did a bit of googling.

I haven't been able to establish definitively whether it's the MPD or the MPDC (I go with MPD based on common usage), but it's most certainly not the DCPD. (And he's lived here long enough that he should have figured that out by now.)

Fun fact about me: at least two people have said I look like N. Cage. That's a good thing, right?

On a more serious note: a) MattY didn't link to the original story, and b) cutesy comments like this - even if just entirely meant as jokes - do reveal just how much of a "courtier" MattY is, in that he seems quite willing to buy the official line, whatever it may be.

Any truth to the rumor that Lee Harvey Oswald's name is an actual clue to the identity of the actual assassins in JFK's killing -- Harvey and Oswald, the two rabbits?

FWIW, their website is mpdc.dc.gov.

Yes, it was on their website that I learned that the Metropolitan Police Department does use MPDC to refer to itself, sometimes.

Well, both men were killed on Coney Island.

When will you provincials realise that this blog is being read all over the planet. For those of us who don't live in DC, DCPD is going to be a whole lot more meaningful than Metropolitan Police Department or MPD or whatever.

Well, both men were killed on Coney Island.

This isn't another "clown-college mascara" reference is it?

Just after the shooting in Dallas, someone came up with a list of all Book Depository employees. At the top of the list was Henry Lee Oswald. That was odd because the rest of the list was completely alphabetical.

"This is a young man who studied the Russian language in the Marine Corps, subscribed to Pravda, had proximity to a U-2 spy plane, defected, or fake defected, to Russia, came back, and had involvements with groups that looked both pro- and anti-Castro, and corresponded with or joined some of the most heavily-targeted domestic political groups of the era."
