Brave New Vacuity

16 Apr 2008 08:32 pm

I don't expect much from the debates, but 30 minutes and counting without a single reference to anything even vaguely related to public policy.

UPDATE: Still no policy at 45 minutes.

UPDATE: Okay, good. Now they're asking about Iraq -- seems like the kind of third-tier issue I'd wait an hour to ask about!

Senator Obama, do you believe Rev. Wright loves America? Do you believe in our flag?

Lmao, who decided to only let elderly, right wing Republicans ask these questions?

This is a worse performance than Timmy's debate shenanigans. Absolutely disgusting.

This is a worse performance than Timmy's debate shenanigans. Absolutely disgusting.

This shit is disgusting. I hope Charlie Gibson dies of a heart-attack. At least then I'll get some enjoyment out of the evening.

These people are simply out to knee-cap Obama 'Do you hate poor people?', 'Why does Reverand Wright hate America?', 'Why do you hate our servicemen and the Flag?', 'Why didn't you personally murder Ayers?'.

'Why didn't you personally murder Ayers?'.

I love you, Soullite. That cracked my s*** up.

I hope the audience starts booing the moderators. ABC believes voters don't care about the economy or Iraq or Iran or social security?

I hold out this as an offer to Pennsylvanians: Drive Clinton from the race, and the nation will not have to suffer through a 22nd debate.

If people base their votes on any of this s**t, they get the government they deserve. If we end up in another stupid war, we'll have Gibson and Stephanopolous to thank. This is a low point for American democracy.

How many times has Hillary said 9-11 so far?

Where's Al and Fred to tell us what a great job our media is doing? Isn't this what they've wanted all along?

I hope Charlie Gibson dies of a heart-attack.

He deserves much worse. Much, much worse. But since sadly he won't get what he deserves, a heart attack right this minute on National television would be a good second best, as well as highly amusing.

Appalling. Totally, totally appalling. All involved at ABC News should be beyond ashamed. Hopefully some of them will learn firsthand how difficult the economy is at present while they're unemployed.

According to a commenter at the Field, Charlie got booed.

This could be the issue that finally unites Obama and Clinton supporters, and Inds and Reps too, as they march forth to burn ABC in effigy.

Charlie Gibson is a guy who never forgets who butters his bread. He (unlike the anchor with a conscience - peter Jennings) is a toady to the Zionist power configuration. And, they don't want Obama.

well george s. was on the neo-nazi/white supremacist show of sean hannity and he wanted george to ask about this guy w. ayers. so do not just blame the whore charlie gibson. a great question for hills how can you beat mccain when you can't beat obama?

ABC has had a pretty pro-Clinton slant for a while. Look at the blog by Jake Tapper, who I like despite his bias. But I think the bigger problem is that the media is totally out of touch with voters. The Wright issue didn't derail Obama because people understood his explanation. The "bitter/cling" comments haven't hurt him because people understand what he was trying to say and know he just didn't say it very well in San Fran. But the media underestimates the average voters ability to understand what's actually going on. I don't know if it's because they think we're stupid or because they don't get that by last Friday evening everyone had already downloaded the youtube video explanation from Obama and had their answer. They didn't have to wait for the next evenings evening news cycles to play out. They were already over it. And, btw, so am I. This primary needs to be over.

It's not just that the media thinks we're stupid.

The media IS part of "The Establishment" - and clearly they've decided - or been told by their owners - that Obama, despite being an AIPAC boot licker with a Web site in Israel in Hebrew and otherwise being lame, is some kind of threat to "things as they are."

So he's got to go down.

It will get worse when he gets the nomination.

This doesn't mean I don't think he can win - it just means that the media is going to pile on him like all those Agent Smiths on Neo in Matrix 2.

In any event, Bush and Cheney are going to start a war with Iran by election time, and if Obama is going to lose, that's what's going to do it - because once it starts, he can't do anything but support it because he's been a hawk on Iran all along. And that will erase any difference between him and McCain - just like Kerry's lack of opposition to Iraq erased any distinction between him and Bush last time.

Josh Bolton said it: "The Dems will lose over Iran." The Bushies didn't try it in 2006, but they will this year.

When MattY pines for "policy", he actually means "bland questions that generate canned speeches". The last thing MattY wants is a real debate featuring real questions, because that would reveal the huge glaring flaws in the policies of both the Dems and the GOP.

If that's wrong, let's see MattY push my idea.

If I could strike ABC from my television options, I would. That was the most puerile idiocy from moderators I have ever scene in a debate. Don't ask about the war - ask about flag pins. Don't ask about the economy - ask about folks Obama knows who've done bad things. Congrats, ABC, on losing a viewer who will make it a point to NOT watch ABC news going forward.
