Change We Can Wear on Our T-Shirts

Do we think the Obama campaign has a product placement deal with Abercrombie & Fitch? How else to explain the backdrop on this rally?

The guy on the left especially needs to go. Great speech, though.

Karma smacking me for noticing how gay the male crowd at Clinton's rally was.

Apparently the bored-looking idiot frat guy demographic is vital in Indiana. They look like they got high right before the speech started.

Better question, how did Larry David get such a great seat?

Abercrombie and Fitch are headquartered in Evansville, IN I believe. Weird, I know.

Great catch Matthew. Now mentioned by Olbermann. I wonder if he's reading your blog.

Y'all are creeping me out! because my brother called me and said, "Are you seeing this bro-fest behind Obama? Larry David's there, too!"

They looked like twins on the left.

Douchebag twins.

Abercrombie and Fitch is headquartered somewhere in Ohio. If you want to see the creepiest man alive (A&F CEO), peep this Salon article:

http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2006/01/24/jeffries/#

Russert: NC Republicans tomorrow will hold a press conference on "controversial figures in Obama's life."

First, fuck Republicans.
Second, they could easily do one for Hillary, but apparently she doesn't scare them.

I think it was a guerrilla marketing display.

is there a link or a picture that i'm not seeing in this post? all i see is Matt's text.

No matter what the reason for the Abercrombie product placement, it was poor planning by Obama's people to let it occur. A&F has a strongly established reputation for racy appeal to teens and 20s (Jenna Jameson catalogs, etc.). Not the best subliminal messge to be sending when you want to expand your appeal to more culturally conservative moms and dads (Hillary's core).

Dude, Obama's finally campaign figured out why he was having trouble with the rust belt demographic. The polls said that he sounds like a fag and his shit's all retarded.

I saw these shirts being hawked out of the back of a beat-up van on Garfield across from Washington Park.

The joys of going to Obamaland U in Hyde Park.

Obama got hit again by the gay press today, so they grabbed the only 3 Small Town Gays they could find, and stuck them front and center. Sadly, to the STG, A&F is the height of fashion....

Yeah, it's a shock. College-aged white guys wear A&F almost exclusively!

Very bro'd up.

Very bro'd up.

Ugh... A&F... I really hope that sandals, hemp necklaces, and pink polo shirts are looked back on like hammer pants and neon colors... in other words, a horrible blight on our planet.

Did anyone else read the article about the CEO? Man... A&F creeps me out more than ever now. It's like a freaking cult heh. And is no one worried that 40-60 year olds are trying to dress like 20 year olds? I thought that you were suppposed to mature when you get older.

Of course, I'm sure that I'm not the 'best' that America has to offer... what with me being so 'cynical' and all. That tool.

From another blog: Ed Rendell promised Mayors all over the state, tax money for pet projects for their work on Hillary's campaign. He has put a bond issue in the state budget to pay off his promises. Half his administrative staff was working on the campaign at the Capital. Hard to beat a machine like that. But Obama did get her down to a 10 point win and weathered the storm. In states with more honest or balanced government, she is toast.

The Republicans love the situation that this primary is in.

1. Hillary was always the weaker candidate against McCain, which is why Operation Chaos was born in the first place.

2. They can assume that Obama is the nominee and just bloody him up to a pulp while he has to fight on multiple fronts with this garbage.

3. If they bloody him up good enough, Hillary may get the nomination. Which would essentially be a pyrrhic victory because it would damage the Democratic party even more. First of all, they would love that outcome, because of course they could run against Hillary and her high negatives. Second, Hillary's GE candidacy could lack a lot of legitimacy in the eyes of ordinary voters and the GOP will certainly love to play that message. Third, the Republicans have the prospect of depressed African-American turnout. And if there is one thing the GOP hates more than anything else, that is Blacks who vote. Their whole electoral strategy for years has always been about trying to disenfranchise Black voters and now they must be creaming themselves with the prospect that Democrats would do it themselves.

How many Blacks would sit out the election if Superdelegates gave it to Clinton in a move that would look suspiciously like racial discrimination (because it would be), I would guess a lot. It would certainly confirm a lot suspicions that African-Americans have about double standards and their ability to make it in this country on their merits (no one took the nomination away from Kerry when he was being swift boated).

Republicans are loving this right now. Absolutely loving it.

I have no idea how things are going to turn out in the fall, but I know one thing for sure will happen if Hillary gets the nomination. A new word will be born that day and it will be Obama'd.

Yeah - as far as Republicans are concerned, this primary couldn't have gone any better. They got their candidate a relatively quick, painless victory without major controversy. The Democrats are in the middle of a bloody civil war that will produce a compromised candidate and a lot of disgruntled voters.

You've got to love being a Democrat. . .

That is one huuuge Fitch!

(Behemoth!)

lol, so glad someone else noticed.

Why does the media allow Hillary to frame their talking points?

Why does the media obsess over whether Obama can win the white working class votes, but not whether Hillary could win the black vote, or the college educated vote, or the youth vote?

I see a double standard.

these guys were such oblivious chuckleheads - I'm sure Obama people saw what we all saw but were fucked b/c they couldn't pull them out during the speech - man - guy on the right (obama's left) wouldn't stop talking to guy in the middle, picked his nose, and I believe was writing on the far side of his sign to show his buddy - towards the end it almost seemed like homeboy was mock parroting obama's delivery, surely b/c he knew no one would see - ugh

Based on returns from the Pennsylvania Deparment of State's Elections website, looks like Hillary's got a 8.6% lead with 98.91% of precincts reporting. Looks like that double-digit win might not be in the cards for her. Let's see what the remaining 1.09% brings.

HEY DIM BULB ARE YOU GOING TO LINK OBAMA TO ANYMORE GANGSTA RAP? IT REALLY HELPS HIS MOTHAFUCKIN’ CAMPAIGN. YO.

Dear Lord,

I humbly beseech you to take the life of Satan's servant Hillary Clinton, in whatever manner thy, in thy infinite wisdom and compassion, deem fit, and send her on her way to her eternal punishment.

Shawn, Here's a video

God-DAMN, but I'm helpful.

You know, it occurs to me that we haver been way too easy on you stupid fucks still supporting the Monster. It's apparent to all but the most stupid among you that your continued support of the monster is only going to guarantee McCain's victory. If you want a senile warmongering anti-choice president with anger management problems, by all means continue supporting the Monster.

But for those of you who don't want a McCain presidency, I suggest one of two thing - support Obama, however reluctantly, or put a bullet through you brain and make the world a better place.

I am sick and tired of acting civil to you people. You are far, far worse than the worst Bush dead enders, and I wish you all suffer horribly for your stubborn stupidity.

I work out at a gym in West Hollywood, which is a major gay enclave. A&F is practically standard-issue for at least this population of big-city gays. If it also typical college frat-boy wear, that is very ironic. If those guys ever stumbled obliviously into West Hollywood, they would get a lot of attention.

There's a lot of talk about the number of Clinton voters who say they won't vote for Obama and vice versa, but I haven't heard anyone mention the fact that nearly 30% of Pennsylvania Republicans did not vote for McCain. Granted, the turnout was probably not perfectly representative since the nomination is wrapped up, but it does hint at some holes in McCain's base.

But for those of you who don't want a McCain presidency, I suggest one of two thing - support Obama, however reluctantly, or put a bullet through you brain and make the world a better place.

YOUR AN OBVIOUS REPUBLICAN AND AN ASSHOLE.

HillaryLovesMcCain using the word Monster reminds me of one of the most under-reported stories in the campaign. Why would Samantha Power call her that? I think I know the answer.

My first introduction to Ms. Power was seeing her advocate for intervention in Darfur to stop the genocide on Charlie Rose. So you think she would have very strong feeling and expert knowledge on genocide in Africa. Well remember when Hillary cravenly claimed that she was secretly advising Bill towards military intervention in Rwanda to stop the genocide there? Well not only did the US not intervene, Clinton forced the pullout of UN Peacekeepers and in the aftermath, a million people were killed in just 100 days. To which Bill later flew to Kigali, bit his lip and said "sorry".

Bill didn't want another Somalia, but he went even further and even forced out the blue helmets leading to mass genocide and then apologizes like it was only a blue dress. Bill played politics with a million lives on his hands and Hillary blatantly uses that for political gain to burnish her national security credentials. Monster indeed.

And speaking of security, is there any more evidence that Hillary is illequiped for protecting us than her "obliterate" comment. Whenever she talks about security it just gets more and more farsical. Tuzla, Rwanda, obliterate, the AUMF was "a vote for diplomacy", Kyl-Lieberman, we could go on. The totality of it all tells a story that is not pretty.

I'm sure A&F paid them and the campaign had nothing to do with it. A&F has tried to promote itself to youth by exploiting other causes (see here: http://phoenix.swarthmore.edu/2008-04-03/opinions/18122).

Those guys looked and acted like they had been lobotomized. Not only completely disinterested, talking and staring vacantly into space - one guy answered his phone, another picked his nose, and the third rolled his sign into a tube and was tapping it against his chin. It was so distracting I could barely pay attention to the speech.

Talk about making young Obama supporters look bad!! Fortunately it was so obvious and poorly done I don't think anyone will buy it. I hope the candidate cracks a good joke about it, and the campaign makes sure it doesn't happen again - Ever.

It made young Obama supporters look bad, and more importantly, showed Utter Distain for American voters and the democratic process. Disgusting. Fortunately it was so obvious and poorly done I don't think anyone will buy it. This should be a good reminder that Corporate America cares about *Nothing* except turing the highest profit with the least effort. I hope the candidate cracks a good joke about it, and the campaign makes sure it doesn't happen again - Ever.

It was incredibly insulting to *real* young supporters of Obama, and more importantly, showed Utter Distain for American voters and the democratic process. Disgusting. Where are A&F clothes made? China? Marianas? Does the company employ American workers?

Hillary Clinton suffers from ED (excessive dishonesty), but there are promising new treatments. However, should the Bill & Hillary show play through June, as predicted, it could damage the DNC, to put it mildly. As Howard Dean is beginning to suspect, Hillary could put the party asunder. I hoped Pennsylvania would send the Clintons a clear edict; take the money, and leave 'em laughing – but they didn’t. Well, the facts are still the facts. And, there’s a strong case to be made against Hillary; trouble is, nobody’s making it. Between Sean Hannity demonizing Barack, and Frank Luntz praising Hillary's coronation, I’m beginning to rethink FOX NEWS’S agenda. Seems nobody even knew Hillary had roots in Pennsylvania, until a few weeks ago. Hillary has long treated working class Americans as a species apart. I’ll skip the lecture, but ignore Hillary at your own peril: http://theseedsof9-11.com

You folks sound bitter.

Mellow out, dudes. A little sweet jane will make you feel better about the fact that other people who already have a religion don't want none of your new one.

I was wondering about those A&F dudes - clearly, it didn't bother them to be triplets wearing the same shirts. But then I'm a girl and have to NEVER be seen wearing the same thing as someone else - unless I was still only 12 then I'd be all up in perpetuating how cool I am by wearing the same thing as my friends. Ha.
