Check That

How is it that Charlie Gibson is challenging the candidates with reference to a constitutional provision that was overridden by Amendment XII over 200 years ago? I've seen a lot of dumb TV news stunts over the years, but that really takes the cake.

He should follow up by asking whether Americans who accept a title of nobility from a foreign sovereign should be stripped of their citizenship, as an amendment that nearly became the Thirteenth Amendment would have provided.

Now Clinton's running as the candidate of hope and inspiration. Go figure.

Lmao, it's all 'bitter' and 'reverend wright'. I guess we know which of these candidates Charlie Gibson prefers.

Errr...Matt? Some context please for those of us not watching...

Augie: Gibson asked whether the the Article 2 section 1 provision providing for the runner up to be vice president would be a good resolution to this primary campaign.

This debate is being insufferable.

This is the worst debate ever. It seems designed soley to damage the eventual nominee, and not to help people make decisions at all. Every question is a 'You're a scumbag, how do you react to that?' question. Every video question is done by an elderly republican.

So Gibson wants McCain to be the Democrat's VP, or the Democrat to be McCain's VP?

Sounds like he wants Jefferson to be Aaron Burr's VP.

Yes.

Well, no, I don't really think so. But as amendments to the constitution go, that seems far less harmful than several that actually were passed, and several more that have been proposed and become popular at various times. Flag-burning amendment, line item veto, balanced budget amendment, prohibition... If our government is going to do enshrine pointless restrictions on individual rights in the constitution, it might as well be pointless restrictions on individual rights that have a more egalitarian effect, rather than less.

Seriously, Gibson, it wasn't "good enough for the Founders." The Founders freaking changed it. Next time you crib from your high school history textbook, read the whole sentence.
