Joe Lieberman is probably beyond shark-jumping at this point, but his statement that Iraqis have made more progress on political reconciliation since September than have Americans is really pretty appalling. To state the obvious, America has a heated political debate, but liberals and conservatives aren't shooting mortars at each other and we don't have pitched battles in the streets. To compare the situation in Iraq to the persistence of strong partisan disagreement in the United States is idiotic.

From Petraeus this morning we learn that 45 days is the new, improved Friedman Unit!
Christ, that is appalling. Can you imagine if a Democrat had said this?
Idiotic is exactly the right word for this sort of bizarre false equivalence.

Yet another reminder (if one is needed) of why Reid needs to strip him of his seniority... so we never have to see him ask dumb questions or make dumb statements in important hearings again.
I can only assume that Lieberman would be ok with it if some mortars were lobbed at his house. Sure, he might not like the "hyper-partisan" nature of the act, but he seems pretty sanguine about the fact that it's an artifact of the times we live in.

Which is exactly why I expect to hear it held up as brilliant analysis on Fox News this afternoon and to hear my in-laws repeating it tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.
Yes, there is a lack of violence in American politics. Is that a good thing? Resolved: Raining mortars on select clusters of Republican officeholders would benefit the United States in the long term.

Although that idea is looking better all the time.
Wait until the Dow hits 6000. Or until the Social Security Trust Fund says it needs its $3 Trillion back.
His writers worked all weekend on that line, and all they accomplished was to ruin it for Leno et al.
Preemptive deprecation.

The day this happens is the day Lieberman switches his party affiliation. He's got Reid over a barrel.
Just wondering, do terrorist need an entire country to train? Hitler abd his gang used to meet in a beer garden.

Petraeus just made an analogy that boggles the mind.
To Petraeus: Al-Qaeda is to the (Sunni) Sons of Iraq as Mahdi Army is to Shia security.
If only somehow we could get the Mahdi Army to peacefully transition into a nationalist Shia militia!
Lieberman's cards are pretty much played out. He had enormous power after the 06 elections, but right now the only thing his crossing the aisle would do is paralyze the senate till after November. The Republicans couldn't take over control before that.
After November, I think Leiberman needs to understand what betrayal really feels like. He lied through his teeth about supporting Democrats to get elected, and his comments today are simply beyond the pale. The man claims to want bipartisanship and civil discourse, and then he implies his former party is worse than armed insurgents. Way to get that dialog going Joe.

LieberWOW!
Remember, these are the same people who shriek "Godwin's Law!" whenever a legitimate Nazi-Bush comparison (such as the fact that BushCo's 'enhanced interrogation techniques' is the English translation of what the Gestapo called their somewhat milder torture methods). Yet Lieberman is allowed to say something titanically stupid and wrongheaded and the media air-kisses him for it. Just like with McCain.
Watching Leiberman makes you marvel at the motley crew of mutant half-wits that elected him. If a citizen of Connecticut ever came running to me with his teeth on fire........

Since Lieberman fancies himself a transpartisan figure, the entire comparison, offensive on its face, is even more offensive for its self-satisfaction.
He's engaging in hyperbole to make a point (I really don't want to try and figure out what the point is . . .That Iraq is wonderful?). The irony is that it is exactly this hyperbole that turns heated American political debate into such vitriolic and infantile ranting. And apparently, he doesn't like the vitriol in American politics, so he chastises us with vitriol?!?
Long live Binonunipostpartisanship! Why have arguments and debates when you can just do what the elders tell you to do?
Soprano:
Reid better do it mid-November. We'll gain more seats in the Senate and render HoJo to the trash bin. He better use his last 6 months in the spotlight wisely.
The day this happens is the day Lieberman switches his party affiliation. He's got Reid over a barrel.
So what if he does? If he doesn't support the party, he's useless. If the Dems pick up Senate seats this cycle (good chance), he'll have even less worth.
Joe reminds me of the wimpy kid that got picked on all the time, and now desperately feels the need to "matter". He's become a cartoon.
But America has more to lose from our partisan divide. Iraq is already wrecked; we are the richest and, by many measures, most secure nation on Earth. A serious long-term ideological/regional/cultural division of the U.S. into static liberal and conservative tribes could take all that away, and I don't think people really realize that yet.
I really hope our friends to the north in CT wise up and vote this jackass out of office at the next available opportunity. Fortunately the Greenwich and New Haven denizens I know plan to do just that.
If the Dems get even one more seat in the Senate in November, then they (better) throw Jo Lie on the trash heap where he so rightly belongs.
LieberWHY? WHY, WHY; WHY?!?!
To Hedley Lamarr: Should we call the new, improved Friedman Unit the FU2?
Backstabberman is at it again. Or was it Traitorman? Can't keep the real name of slimy joe straight these days.
Sounds pretty un-patriotic to me! Maybe Lieberman has been watching too many Faux News cycles of Rev. Wright and his anti-Americanism has sunk in. Lieberman needs to spend more time with his uber-patriot buddies McCain and Graham and tack on a few more flag pins.
Well, you guys may not like Lieberman, but he's a real Christian-Warrior-Hero to our good friend Chris "PatriotGuy" Ford...
Want to make Joe Lieberman completely irrelevant?
Get off your ass and support a real Democrat's senatorial campaign.
Try this one.

The day needs to be November 6, 2008 and no longer! Although the 5th would be better!
Lieberwhat?
Lieber-pleeeze!
is he still in the Senate?
Well, if Democrats expand their majority in the Senate, Lieberman will become the has-been powerless nonentity he deserves to be. We need to make sure that happens.
and he needs to make sure that doesn't, so he latches himself onto McCain, his only political future power is with a McCain presidency and long McCain coattails.
Liebushman should be kicked hard right in the fucking balls.
Twice.
We just can't reconcile to the notion of Zell Miller Jr. being truly representative of Connecticut. Maybe he's just angling for a VP slot with Kim Jong-Il.

If Lieberman truly believes this, then he obviously is incompetent to understand the situation in Iraq. If he's being cute with observations, then he's not taking the situation seriously. Either way, he's an asshole.
"Watching Leiberman makes you marvel at the motley crew of mutant half-wits that elected him. If a citizen of Connecticut ever came running to me with his teeth on fire........"
Hey, I'm from Connecticut!
In my defense, I haven't been back there in thirty five years...
Yeah, by now, they probably are mutant half-wits...There's a serious pollution problem. I remember living in Denver and people complaining about the "brown cloud" over the mountains. They should live in Connecticut - the brown cloud covers the STATE.
For what it's worth people (I'm from Connecticut), we Democrats did what we could to keep him out of office but he gamed the system by playing it both ways. He knew he was toast in the primary and hedged his bets by making sure the paperwork was in so that he could run as an independent. He then lied about lessons learned upon losing the Democratic primary enough to con the few Dems who bought it. Then to add insult to injury, the Republican party put up a faux candidate knowing full well that Republican voters would reject him and cast enough votes to put this rather pathetic little man over the top. Most Connecticut Dems saw him for the danger that he is and tried to head it off. Unfortunately, the rest of the country is now suffering from us getting screwed.
