Is Barack Obama Muslim

23 May 2008 05:16 pm

At last a website comes along to ask: Is Barack Obama Muslim? As the site says, the answer is no. I hope if we all link, the Google ranking will go up.

Not as far as anyone knows.

I suppose I ought to know this already. Could somebody fill me in on where "excellent news for hillary" comes from?

Thanks. Its now on my blogroll.

Brilliant.

Just an idle thought, but the current head-to-head polls of course include the people who think Obama is a Muslim. But it is almost surely the case the number of such people will decline substantially before the general election. So that alone will probably improve Obama's polling results against McCain, although I wouldn't try to put an exact figure on that effect.

The people asking that question don't care what the real answer is.

There certainly is the possibility that he could be one, or could be considered still to be one by others. In any case, telling the truth about his lies is the better way to show he's not qualified for any public office.

I'd say anyone stupid enough to ask the question shouldn't be someone Obama wants voting for him.

Let the morons vote for McCain - or Clinton. They will, anyway. No matter how much you try, McCain is going to get at least thirty percent of the vote - and probably 49% - if not 51%.

The Bell Curve controls elections.

Wait a minute--You go to the web site, and all there is are links to five web sites that address this issue--and have, I might add, for some time. This is new? I've been going to snopes.com for the talking points for a long time. Credit where credit's actually due, OK?

Anyone who actually believes this probably doesn't use the internet anyway.

Ummm... isn't the origin of the smear an email? I think a more fair comment is that anyone who actually believes isn't really bothering to fact-check it with Google. The point of the email hoax is that it claims this is being overlooked/hidden by mainstream new outlets who are, of course run by elitist liberrruls who are bending over backwards for Barack Obama. So a site that links CNN and MSNBC can be easily dismissed as just another source of liberrul misinformation. As opposed to that very trustworthy email sent from your very trustworthy Uncle Joe.

More to the point, the number of people who believe this (9-10% of the electorate, according to the polls I've seen) is LESS than the number of people who believe Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attacks, LESS than the number of people who believe that the US Army did find WMDs in Iraq, and LESS than the number of people who approve of the job George W. Bush is doing as president. These folks are on the fringe. The Muslim smear is not a serious threat to Obama's candidacy, and anyone who spends time worrying about it is drifting into the same tin-foil hat territory currently occupied by the dittohead rubes who believe it.

I do think a larger and not-insignificant percentage of the electorate is suspicious of Obama because of his funny name and skin color, but changing their minds is not as simple as proving that Obama is not a Muslim. I do think that Obama can win over some of these folks with a few big media events (a knock-your-socks-off convention acceptance speech, some high-profile I-feel-your-pain moments on the campaign trail, and a good you-know-he's-half-WHITE-too national market bio ad) will win over some of these folks. But never all or even most of them.

It'll be a close election. The first black president won't be elected in a landslide, and that's okay. Spending precious time trying to debunk what far-out freepers believe about him is a waste of time.

Thank you for using the correct SEO technique in your naming of the anchor. A while back the Obama campaign was buying the search terms -- not a bad idea.

Anyone who actually believes this probably doesn't use the internet anyway

Tim K (the moron) has spouted this rubbish for quite some time and he's an internet user.

This is new?

Back in January, the top four Google searches that begin with 'is' all asked this question?

Hence the site.

(Shitweasel Daniel Pipes gave his piece a similar headline for the same reason.)

no no no. don't repeat the false charge. should be 'barackobamaisachristian.com

Not sure there's enough content on the page for it to rank and they should add the appropriate meta tags.

To be clear, I agree most people who believe Obama is a Muslim are not marginal Obama voters in any event. On the other hand, I don't think we political junkies should overlook the fact that a lot of other voters just don't pay all that much attention to an electoral contest this far out from the actual election. So, I really do believe some of these people are potentially Obama marginal voters who just happen to be, at this point in time, not paying enough attention to know better.

Plus, search engines aren't going to really care unless they repeat the phrase several times. If that spoils the look, put some hidden text in there, like this: turkish hardcore porn. That'll work.

a good you-know-he's-half-WHITE-too national market bio ad

I don't think the people who are freaked out by the idea of voting for a black man are going to be calmed by thoughts of miscegenation.

And yes, Matt, good job with the link text for search engines, unlike Ezra (whose post was assaulted by worse trolls).

Reverend Obama says Si! to Cooban-American aspirations for liberacion and No! to the reigning bourgeoise.

Just so I understand, the electoral reason it's so overwhelmingly important to clear this up and make sure everyone knows that Barack Obama is not a Muslim is that it would be bad if Barack Obama were a Muslim, because Muslims are bad. Is...is that it?

Does aspartame cause brain cancer ?

It would be nice if all the links worked. The CNN one is dead. The urban legend one doesn't have an Obama specific story but it does have a picture of a nipple with an infection.

Whoever set this up should rethink some of the links and correct it ASAP.

The CNN and the Urban Legends links still both work for me, davisss13. Do they not work for anyone else? If so, I'll take them down.

Bob: If you give me "the appropriate meta tags" I'd be glad to add them.

The same goes for anyone else: if you have sources you'd like to add, just email it to me and I'll update the site.

Thanks.

Oh, and that email address is: isbarackobamamuslim.com@domainsbyproxy.com.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Odd. I posted the link at Houston Chronicle for some rightwing trog who was screaming the madrassa story, they informed me all the links didn't work and I tried them myself. Hmmm...

And they do work for you, right?

No they didn't work.

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_b...bama_muslim.htm

comes up as a generic about.com with the ugly infection picture and:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/22/oba...assa/index.html

Generates this:

404 Error

The other one gives me this:

http://www.barackobama.com/factcheck/2007/..._a_muslim_1.php
Please check the url and try again.

I have no idea. Maybe it's on my end.

Great idea ... Though I don't know if the target demographic would get that footnotes with links = a way to get the facts. I know that sounds condescending, but I'm just being honest. How about quotes from the articles with a link following them. This would help pagerank, too although getting this site and sullivan to link to it may be enough.
