Just one more reminder about tonight's Nixon Library event for Heads in the Sand. I realize there are a lot of folks in L.A. proper for whom the time/location's no good but this is all I've got in terms of travel to the area (the terms of the trip are that I can't use the Nixon Library dime to come out west and then do events at other places) so try to come if you can.

James Gary:
Isn't the point that we DFH's are more respectful and honest than Tricky Dick? That being said, how long are they paying for MY to be out there? And what hotel are they putting him up at? Hell, he's not even close to any beaches in the real OC.
Why did you agree to such Draconian (Nixonian?) terms?
It's tonight??? Based on what MattY posted earlier, I thought it was tomorrow. In fact, I booked the bus and everything but for tomorrow, and the bus company just told me they don't have a big enough bus for all the people I was going to bring for tonight. I guess I'm going to have to call everyone and tell them we'll have to wait until next time.
Vroman's bookstore in Pasadena is a major independent bookstore that is good for this kind of thing. I know that you can't split the dime on this trip, but they would be worth contacting and getting someone to give you a new dime. Then I could hear you talk about the book. Nixon library is very far from the LA center of gravity unfortunately.
A library is imposing those terms? Sounds like someone might want to remind them about their mission of spreading knowledge and access to as many people as possible. But then, it is Nixon, I guess.
OK, looks like it'll just be me, but I should be able to make it tonight.
While at the Nixon Library, be sure to check out both the room with the lifesize, bronze statues of major world leaders whom Nixon hung out with (De Gaulle was super tall! Churchill, pretty short.) as well as the room devoted to Watergate, which sort of looks like Darth Vader's tomb.
You could use the Nixon dime for other events, but that would be wrong.
Just say you used money from the Associated Milk Producers to cover your expenses for the other events. And, if anyone at the Dick Center bitches about it, tell them this:
I am saying it, incidentally, that it was wrong, just not illegal, because it isn't a question of whether it was legal or illegal, that isn't enough. The question is, was it morally wrong? I say that it was morally wrong -- if any of that airfare went to Big Media Matt, for my personal use. I say that it was morally wrong if it was secretly given, and secretly handled. And I say that it was morally wrong if any of the other events got special favors for the appearances I made.
And now to answer those questions let me say this: not one cent of the airfare or any other money of that type ever went to me for my personal use. Every penny of it was used to pay for travel expenses that I did not think should be charged to the taxpayers of the United States.I am not a crook.
Incidentally, you might want to find out whether a similar restriction has been placed on other speakers, or whether you've been singled out because, you know --
Nixon: But Bob, generally speaking, you can't trust the bastards. They turn on us.

Petty, short-sighted and greedy - True to his core Republican values even beyond the grave ...
I want to know why MY is ruining the environment and contibiting to global climate change with these trips across the country in jet airliners. Is not the future of the world more important than the vanity of one man?
Oh the humanity.
Based on what MattY posted earlier, I thought it was tomorrow.
Whack O'Mole has the same problem predicting the date of the Imminent Brown Insurgencia.
Ben Cronin-
When I was at the Nixon Library a few months ago, the Watergate exhibit consisted of nothing more than an empty hallway, a photocopied picture of a tape recorder, and a piece of printer paper that said "Watergate Exhibit Coming Soon". The museum went directly from "How Nixon ended Vietnam and brought peace to the world" to "Nixon's distinguished post-presidency".
Off Topic:
Matt once asked for soda pop sweetened with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, if I recall.
Could happen.
"the room devoted to Watergate, which sort of looks like Darth Vader's tomb."
Are you sure that wasn't Cheney's?
I hate to ask this about an event at the Nixon library, but will it be recorded?
Come see us in Denver.
Schedule another event and if you get caught blame it on getting free cocker spaniel. Tell them Ezra and Spencer love that little dog and you're not giving it back. Or the airfare.
Downtown LA (where I work) to Yorba Linda in rush hour? I wouldn't drive to witness the second coming during LA rush hour. And if you live/worke on the Westside? You're SOL
If MattY brought his tux, he could go for a stroll.
But, seriously, what MattY really should do is take a trip to the nearby Santa Ana and witness the impacts of his policies, like this.

Well, sure, if you don't mind missing 18 minutes.

Al, I never thought I would compliment you, but that was funny.
I'd love to come see you, but it would take me more time to drive out to Yorba Linda to see you than it would take you to drive from DC to NYC. It's just too far; it's a week night; there's too much traffic (it isn't just the distance, it's the traffic). I do live reasonably close to the Reagan library, too bad you won't be there.

Shoot man! I live right across the street from the Nixon Library - wish I even knew about you, your blog and your visit to the library! I found out too late - plus, being a lifelong democrat I really don't pay too much attention to what is going on across the street. :-( I will make an effort to read your blog now that I know it exists!
Gonna miss it, have fun. Out of work late and Lakers on, too difficult to coordinate.
Regarding downtown L.A., that's only good for those who are already downtown. Everyone else will have to struggle on one or more jammed freeways.
A much better alternative for when MattY comes out here again is Cudahy. It's centrally located, but the magic of it is that people can get to it without going through downtown itself. It's a fairly easy drive from just about anywhere.
Plus, it's like a test tube of liberal policies, so it would be a great place for MattY to give his next performance.
Patricia: "I will make an effort to read your blog now that I know it exists!"
Don't bother - it's not worth the effort unless you like reading arguments with morons - or analysis of sports teams.
View one of Matt's "Bloggingheads" or "The Table" appearances - that should turn you off him fast.

So--just do the other events at other places, and then blatantly lie about it afterward. It seems a fitting homage to Nixon.
