Summer Mixtape, Delayed

30 May 2008 06:50 pm

[Alyssa]

I know I promised ya'll a summer mixtape, but I do have a day job, and I haven't had time to sort through all your suggestions yet. So I'll ask Matt if we can put one up as soon as I can get it together, by the first day of summer at the latest. And feel free to keep the selections coming.

You guys are forgetting to put your [name-of-poster] tag up. You trying to confuse us as to who's posting?

And if you don't include the Corrs "Summer Sunshine", YOU DIE!

Also, I forget - did anybody mention Abba's "Summer Night City"?

I'll make one, but you won't like it. It'll be a collection of folk music from places like Cambodia, Turkey, and Bulgaria; mixed with modern pop music from India and the Middle East. I might even throw in some jazz covers of Grateful Dead tunes to fill it out. There will be a Zappa tune, of course. Can't leave him out.

Summer mixtape delayed is summer mixtape denied.

No problem. I am sure it will suck anyway.

Dude, it's y'all (pronounced "yall"), not ya-ll ("ya-ul"). You really need to spend some time at SXSW next year to catch up on the lingo.

"Dude, it's y'all (pronounced "yall"), not ya-ll ("ya-ul")'

Yeah, but it's important to remember that, in Texas, "y'all" is singular and the plural is "all y'all."

tom vek - one horse race
tokyo police club - in a cave
coconut records - nighttiming
jeremy jay - airwalking

I guess I should add the "som'y'all" is also an acceptable plural in Texas. Even my yankee ass can get away that down there.

What I'd like is if you took all the videos here and just put them on a tape back to back so we could all listen to them over and over and over again. Maybe all of us could listen to it at the same time and get in a chat room and share our thoughts even. I'll bet MattY would like that too!

If you can find it, get The Hold Steady's "Constructive Summer". It probably won't fit in with anything else, but it's a damn good summer song nonetheless.

Animal Collective - Water Curses

and make you feel alive and good."

Hey fellow Yglesiacs, I know I'm lame for touting my own band, but seriously, MY is one of my favorite bloggers and his (and the commentors too) always have interesting taste in music so I figure it's not too self-promotingly whorish on my part. I wanted to send Matt a private message asking him to check us out, but couldn't figure out how. Anyways, check us out. --Uncle Eb
