Kraftwerk also supplies your train needs, but you might want to skip "Autobahn." ...In the meantime, that song bears no resemblance whatsoever to the song that I've thought was "Tour de France" for decades. I'll have to go around humming the one I remember to people until someone identifies it for me or punches me, whichever comes first.
yeah, that's not the standard tour de france (or maybe i had the 12", not sure). (where's the "italy/champselysee/TDF/TDF" chant?)
This is presumably from the 1991 remix album. Remix is an understatement in this case.
Have you misplaced your 'n' key?
Ah, thanks everybody -- it was quite likely that I would get punched first. Here's the original, with the riff I remember, accompanying images of the World Naked Ride Against Oil Dependency.
"This is presumably from the 1991 remix album. Remix is an understatement in this case." No, it's a remix from 1999 or something later that wikipedia don't know about. Here's the original, classic version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubc6JGymZis
I think that's the theme to Eurosport TV's Tour de France coverage. Or something like that. The 1984 TdF single is quite different. And, yeah, I still have the lyrics in my head when I train: "l'Enfer du Nord, Paris-Roubaix . . . Les Alps et le Pyrenees ...," etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPowpIRVOuY
Reportage sur moto.../> It's like the song is describing the tour de france for us. ps. You don't have a tight colorful bike outfit, do you Matt?
"Here's the original, classic version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubc6JGymZis" Nope, that one's it either! That's the breakdance version. Here's the original. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPowpIRVOuY&feature=related
Note that Jamey's got the original, but Weiner linked to the breakdance version.
"Tour de Frane" Am I missing something, or is the title to this post just one of MY's more ridiculous typos?
Losing Lance and the drug thing have really ruined the Tour for me. Baseball's out for parallel reasons. That pretty much leaves SI Swimsuit Issue as the only good and pure thing in the world of sports.
Kraftwerk is great. They're unfairly maligned in some circles, but we're all geeks here. This track, however, doesn't do it for me. Maybe it's the West European adoration of cycling doesn't do it for me - Belgians have baffled me with their descriptions. Contra a comment above, "Autobahn" is a great tack and album. First showed me the group's wonder and humor. Sounds like what a roadtrip ought to be...
Weiner linked to the breakdance version. Ah. That's actually probably the one I remember -- I heard when kids in my middle school were breakdancing to it. And I didn't mean to say anything bad about "Autobahn" as a track, just that it doesn't line up with Matt Y.'s transit priorities.
Now is ze time on Sprockets vehn ve dance!
if you're from DC, you can't hear transeuropeexpress without thinking trouble funk express. i'm guessing fairly recent transplants like matt don't know from classic go-go.
RIP Robert Reed. If you want Trouble Funk, you need this ridiculously bargain-priced album. Trans-Europe Express might also remind you of Planet Rock.
Really looking forward to the Tour this year. The Giro d'Italia, which is going on right now, has been very exciting as well thus far.
At first that registered as Lee Siegel, and I came up with a great sock puppet joke, but alas it wasn't meant to be. Ignore the haters, Matt. I consider the typos a stylistic device.
Ah, but here's where the haterz are wrong: "frane" isn't a typo, either in English or French. It's actually a reference to something obscure and interesting that only MattY knows about, and MattY shows once again that he's hipper than everyone else. Meanwhile, here's something from me featuring a POV + a much older ditty.
Okay, I take responsibity for posting "Tour de France"-lite over at "The Monkey Cage." I did this knowingly because (1) I like the video component and (2) I assumed that my readers wouldn't want to stick around for the whole, long original version, with which I've been familiar ever since it came out. But from these responses, it looks like way too many of us, including me, have got way too much time on our hands. Get away from your computer and go out for a ride.

This song is, I believe, a single version of the "Tour de France Étape 1-2-3" suite from the 2003 Kraftwerk album "Tour de France Soundtracks." It's less of a remix of the original song and more of just a sequel to it.

Matt, The Grandson of Prescott Bush just went before the Knesset to play the Nazi card against our first black President to-be.
Is that an appropriate way to acknowlege National Bike to Work Day, much less Israel's 60the anniversary?
