Headline in Need of an Article

28 Jun 2008 10:05 am

I flipped over to the "Notes" function on my iPhone and found a note I apparently wrote a couple of weeks ago and forgot about. It reads simply "Populism With Results: What the GOP Could Learn from Hamas and Hezbollah." Talk about a grand new party!

If you weren't a progressive, I would say that this was plumbing Jonah Goldberg-scale depths of inanity.

But you are a progressive, so I laughed.

"wrote a couple of weeks ago and forgot about" = "wrote after drinking a bunch of High Life and Jim Bean"?

You probably should have written the article, and then subtly attached the headline in the usual way. Then we could have all remarked on what a clever title that article had. Now you just look like a narcissistic freak.

Really, Friedmanesque at his rhetorical worst.

I do think the Republicans would increase their appeal with a flag and some sort of headband.

Also, directly providing social services seems to have worked for Hamas and Hezbollah. It would be a little counter to their message, but I imagine if Republicans started offering low cost healthcare and religiously inflected schooling (more congenial to the platform), they'd do pretty well.

I'd say the Democrats ought to be emulating Hizballah more than the Republicans.

As in, be willing to stand up to the enemy a little more.

Maybe work the Party Of God / God's Own Party angle?
