Live Liberally By Buying My Book

26 Jun 2008 04:10 pm

Seth Pearce has a very kind review of Heads in the Sand as a "Living Liberally Page Turner" feature. He says "I really hope that Barack Obama and the other Democratic candidates running in 2008 read Matthew Yglesias's Heads in the Sands, and take its vision of a comprehensive liberal national security policy seriously." I hope so, too, but even more I just hope that you, the blog readers of the world, will buy the book. Saving the world would be nice, but it's sales that really matter.

I don't know if I live liberally, or what that even means when you get to it, but I found it a page-turner as well. You did good.

I requested that my local library buy it---seriously.

How are sales going?

What about the fame and the glory?

how do you and the publisher make out when I buy it through the book club?

Kindle edition please?

Matt,

Recycled paper? Carbon offsets for shipping? How are you managing the carbon footprint of your book?

Seth Pearce has a very kind review of Heads in the Sand. . .

Reviews aren't "kind"! Favorable ones are written by true scholars who grasp the key issues, showing knowledge, insight, and wit; unfavorable ones are petty and tendentious, focusing on trivia and demonstrating the reviewer's complete ignorance of the subject matter.

I bought it. I read it. It's about right.

I think Obama already buys into Matt's thinking.

He wants to "win" in Afghanistan and "take the fight to Al Qaeda" in Pakistan, too. Which means he's as clueless as Matt on those countries.

Unlike Matt, however, he also is willing to attack Iran. I suppose that's something to be said for Matt.

It just took me months to get Matt to admit it.

So, if you could sell 10 copies to Obama and his closest political and foreign policy colleagues, or 1,000,000 copies to the riff-raff with no chance to actually influence anything... you'd go for the mil?

Shame shame shame.

But I understand.

Come on over to a book store or library in Northern Virginia so I can give Mr. Yglesias a hard time and I might consider buying his book.

You know, I pre-ordered the book on Amazon and read it, like, two months ago... It would be cool if there some way to filter out the book-pimping for those of us who've already done our part. (If you could develop the same technology for NPR pledge drives, I'd buy 500 more copies of your book.)

My copy is on the way, from the Progressive Book Club (http://www.progressivebookclub.com). I look forward to reading it!

You could have not been a cheap bastard and sent comp copies to obama et all. You might get lucky with a photo opp like fareed got.

Everyday after lunch I pop into the local bookstore and read a few pages for free. Unfortunately, I get grease and ketchup on the pages, so they have to throw it away when I'm done.
