I guess Craigslist is so yesterday
Is this Matt?
"I am attractive, successful professional, 5′8, fit, drug and disease free and enjoy going out to different bars, restaurants and clubs, running/cycling along the Potomac, etc."
Oh, wait, it says "fit".
Never mind.
Now THIS one was funny!
"Intern wearing Tiara drinking Appletinis at Tryst Friday evening - m4w - 24 (Adams Morgan)

I should have gotten up and told you this in person, but perhaps it would have come off wrong. That’s why people post missed connections, right?
Thank you so much for enlivening the DREARY Tryst atmosphere by stumbling in– were you already tipsy? Don’t lie! — with your girlfriends during the early evening hours at Tryst. I assume from the tiara that it was your birthday? Maybe your 21st? How exciting to turn 21 at the beginning of your important Hill internship! The tiara, by the way, shows the kind of self-awareness in a girl that really turns me on! Cheers, too, to your sophisticated choice of drinks. Appletinis!
Thanks for not minding all the boring people around you reading books or having quiet conversation by the candlelight. You go girl for mistaking Tryst for Tom-Tom! You and your girlfriends raised the decibel level of the conversations in the room by at least 50% with your shrieks and Long Island accents! Your attire was terrific, too. That little black dress that you and all your girlfriends were wearing– what a unique choice; I’ve never anyone wear one to go out in Adams Morgan– really complemented the orange fake tan you were wearing.
So yeah, if you read these– if you know what Craigslist is!– definitely send me a note. I’d really love to observe your behavior one-on-one as part of my avocational interest in social anthropology. Maybe we can even meet go to Tryst again!
Me- Irritated person reading serious novel at nearby couch"
Ew.
I agree with Antid.
eww.
Attention confused people: That blog collects sleazy posts from the DC craigslist site. It's intent is satirical.
Whew. I thought The End Times were upon us.
Every day now when I ride the metro home I can see all these kids removing each others' cheap department store suits with their eyes. Hell, I can smell it -- smell the hunger coming out of their pores. Confusion, loneliness, desperation.. it's a bad time of year to be a red-liner and a hill-dweller. And it's just beginning.
Help! I need an NBA post to gloat in!
Nice bed-despoiling, Lakers - although I'd like to see the Lig retroactively fine Pierce a hefty sum for that Varajeo-worthy flop in the last few minutes.
Yes, I'm a Bulls fan and I'm biased. But I never, ever want to hear anymore of this business about Kobe being on a level with Jordan. Not a word.
Laker fans,
Congratulations on the first two quarters. Very impressive. Even Odom showed up for ten minutes. But the real take on the Lakers remains true: they are soft and don't play defense. Celtics have been the best team in the league since November and adding Gasol hasn't truly changed the dynamic. The Allen lay-up past Vuyacic was classic, and I especially enjoyed his tantrum on the bench afterwards. Game three was a fluke.
The only real question for me is whether or not Boston can win two games.
LA is as close to a lock to win the series as injuries permit in this sport.

This series is not like that series. Barring injury, Boston just can't matchup to LA in a way that'll let 'em win 4 games.
Posted by Petey | June 2, 2008 1:54 PM
Boston not only has no one to run around with Kobe on the defensive end and make him work hard to do what he does, but on the offensive end, Kobe is going to be able to take Rondo and thus play center field.
They're basically fucked. For want of a Bruce Bowen clone, the kingdom is lost.

"Did everyone miss the Celtics/Cavs playoff series? It seems like the Cs were able to handle the only player in the league even more unguardable than Kobe, and managed to win games even when Bron-Bron had a great performance."
Bet 'em. You can get almost 2 to 1 odds. It's a sucker bet, though.
LA is a much better team than Cleveland, and Boston had better options at the '3' than they do in the backcourt.
Even if the supporting casts were equivalent, which they aren't, Boston could defend LeBron far better than they can defend Kobe.

"Having said that, if history is any indication, not a good sign that both Matt and Petey are predicting a Lakers victory."
I'm not "predicting" an LA victory. I'm saying that barring injury, Boston has no chance whatsoever.
At 80/20, I'd still bet the Lakers.

Haha well played, Petey's NBA insight. Let's do the same for SomeCallMeTim.
The Lakers have played well in the playoffs and the Celts haven't. I don't know why you're surprised. Or put another way, the team taken to seven by Atlanta is, fairly or not, never the favorite.

"Boston's backcourt is just too weak to make Kobe work hard, which is a necessary predicate to being competitive with LA overall."
Maybe. I think Rondo's going to give LA fits. His long arms make him a better defender against Fisher, and a better help defender as Kobe gets funneled to the middle. It's the Celts front line that I don't trust.
"The truth is, nobody knew the Patriots would destroy the Giants, no matter how many lead-pipe lock guarantees they made, and no one knows what will happen in this series."
The truth is that nobody knows the sun will come up tomorrow, but I know which way I'm betting.

"But if LA's backcourt is just miles above Boston's, why weren't they able to exploit that advantage during the regular season?"
I don't think it's the backcourt. It's the front court improvement, which, among other things, means you can't pay as much attention to Kobe (e.g., the backcourt). As someone else said above, they're going to have to pick whether they want to stop Odom or Gasol.

"The Lakers could still win,"
My sense is that the consensus was the Lakers in six. That's still on the table. The Lakers played very poorly, and I don't think that was entirely a function of the Celts' defense.

Lay off of SCMT. He sounds completely reasonable, even if his predictions were off. Petey, on the other hand ...
Man, DC must be a pathetic place to live.
Matt, have you thought of moving back to NYC?
I don't live there myself, but it's great and it seems like you'd thrive there, and really, you can do whatever it is you do from there, no?
Suddenly I'm curious about sports, just so I can get the Petey/SCMT jokes.
Per se sexual harassment if this is sent around our office.
You know they call them skin-terns for a reason, right?
