I was gratified that the Times' headline referred to Cheney and his faction as 'hardliners,' calling a spade a spade, nice.
Yeah, it's clear that from '01-'06, the U.S. government's foreign policy was controlled by hardliners, after '06, it has somewhat been returned to the safe and sane.
According to one of the pieces (Times or Telegraph), Rice talked Bush into it by convincing him that it would reflect better on his legacy, man I hope that's not true.
My mother claims she and my dad knew him. She also claims he's a wonderful person.
Sometimes I doubt her sanity. This time, it's her ability to judge character.
Let's keep in mind that McCain's foreign policy would be more like Cheney's than even Bush's.
McCain is the first presidential candidate I know running on a platform of no diplomacy.
And if anyone be reminded of how McCain really feels about Cheney: At a campaign rally in July 2004, McCain praised Cheney as "one of the most capable, experienced, intelligent and steady vice presidents this country has ever had."
There seems to be very little substance to this deal. NK makes a long-promised "declaration of its nuclear program" and blows up a (disabled) cooling tower. The US lifts a few commercial sanctions. Big whoop.

The fact that a person is cordial doesn't preclude them from being a righteously evil person. Hell, I'm sure that a bunch of people thought John Wayne Gacy was a wonderful guy until they found out what he liked to do in private.
Dick's just grumpy because the only thing he has to look forward to in retirement is shooting penned-up game birds and strangling rabbits with his bare hands.

Actually, yes. One of the most common elements to serial killers, from what I've heard, is that they tend to be supremely kind people. Everyone talks abot "Oh! He seemed like such a great guy."
But, my mother, unfortunately, tries to justify his policy choices. It would really be like someone trying to justify Gacy despite knowing what he does/did.
I think she really puts too much stock n her hope for good intentions. Which is amusing because in her personal life, she's quite paranoid about peoples' intentions.
