The Perennial

Huh, I had no idea that Sam Nunn was floated as a VP contender in so many different election cycles.

You make me feel old.

Does anybody other than some media plutocrats care about Sam Nunn? This must be a targeted pander for Chris Matthews types, right?

Yeah and he was a gay-hating republican douche each time.

Brian:
You are half right. I don't think Nunn is the Aqua Velva type, so I doubt he's Tweety's type. Nunn gets flogged by Broder and the now defunct Unity '08 crowd(Which is funny when you think about it because at one point, the two highest polling politicians in their poll were Obama and Feingold).

He's the wrong choice every four years, just as he's the wrong choice this year.

I didn't realize he was so often brought up, though. I didn't recall hearing about him that much in prior years. I was pretty shocked and mortified when a bunch of journos started throwing his gentrified name around.

He really hasn't been a likely choice since the 80's.

I'm not so sure about now. God help us.

Give me Biden if Obama feels he 'needs' a SERIOUS person.

I remember rumors, gossip, and whispered Beltway-insider advocacy for either a full-on Sam Nunn presidential candidacy or VP nomination going back to '88. He has some antecedents in figures like former Maine Senator George Mitchell, former Air Force Secretary Stuart Symington, and former Georgia Senator Richard B. Russell. All men who were broadly perceived as presidential caliber by Beltway Insiders who nonetheless never took the plunge.

Do you think that some day, when he grows up, Evan Bayh will get to be a eternal also-ran like Sam Nunn?

Russell ran in 52.

Evan Bayh will get to be a eternal also-ran like Sam Nunn?

Technically, they're not even also-rans, because... they didn't run.

They're never-even-rans.

I think gays and seamen shouldn't mix!!
