J Street's got a petition going where you can tell Joe Lieberman how you feel about the idea of one of America's most prominent Jews going to hang out with Pastor Hagee who thinks Hitler was God's agent.

Hagee Petition

Maybe the Israel bashers at Jstreet and Mr. Yglesias think that Senator Lieberman should hang out with their pals over at counterpunch.
It makes me feel like I'm being anally raped with a menorah by my childhood rabbi, while he hums "Hava Nagila" violently in beat with each thrust. How's that?
the idea of Hitler being God's agent just goes with the territory of Christianity
Which of the following has NOT been excommunicated by the Catholic Church: Joe DiMaggio, Sinead O'Connor, Adolph Hitler?
I really don't have a problem with Lieberman hanging out with Hagee. They deserve each other.
The Catholic Church cannot excommunicate people who are not members, so saying they didn't excommunicate Hitler is like saying they should have excommunicated Genghis Khan.
The problem with these petitions is they only feed Lieberman's fantasy of himself as the virtuous man, abandoned by all his former friends. Best to ignore him. Joe who? You mean the guy with no chin who hangs around McCain? That sort of thing.
I'd recommend NOT hanging around Hagee anywhere near a Baskin Robbins, though.

Who knows. Maybe Hagee will pick up where Hitler left off, and convince Joe to leave the U.S. and go back to the promised land. Not that I can imagine that Israel would want him.
OK, I have a question.
What's the orthodox Jewish explanation for Hitler?
At this point Lieberman deserves the crappy company he keeps and rightly so. He's an opportunistic slime-ball, let him hang out with trash and next year, hopefully, the Democrats will just ignore him.
SLC Hagee is or is not a real friend of Israel? Of the Jews? I don't see how you can comment and not commit to one opinion or another on the subject.
That's the wimpiest petition I've ever seen in my life. You might as well have written Mussolini in the early 30's saying:
"Duce, please don't make friends with Hitler."
As far as Lieberman - he's exactly the kind of guy who would've counseled Jewish families around the start of WWII to not be afraid to be transported to Auchswitz because the stories were "exaggerated" in order to build support for a Jewish homeland in the Middle East after the War ended. I'm really surprised some Rabbi hasn't yet called him a *rodef. The kind of Jew who corrupts and endangers other Jews to such an extent that it's a moral imperative to eliminate him.
Re Freddie
Whatever his motives, Reverend Hagee supports the State of Israel. The folks over at counterpunch do not. Unfortunately, given the hatred of the State of Israel on the left, as is quite evident by reading posts by Mr. Trevor and Mr. otto, one must look for allies where one can find them. I would remind Mr. Freddie that the US and Britain got into bed with uncle Joe Stalin during the 2nd World War, a marriage of convenience if ever their was one. Reverend Hagee, whatever his faults and they are numerous, is no Joe Stalin.
And SLC is known by the company he keeps - all of whom are racist, violent, imperialist, fascist scum, whether they be Zionists or Christian Zionists.
And the state of Israel is run by the same scum. Meyer Lansky had more morals than the people running Israel.
Re Richard Steven Hack
I would have to agree with Mr. Hack insofar as the corruption in the Government of Israel makes that country look like its Arab neighbors. Obviously, what is required is a thorough house cleaning there, which, unfortunately, will be extremely difficult given the current electoral system. The imperative to move to at least a partial constituency system is obvious and is the only way to return some measure of accountability.
Re Hagee
By the way, Reverend Hagee is not the only one who considers Hitler to be gods' agent. Rabbi Ovieda, who is the founder of the Shas Party in Israel, also believes that the Jews in Europe were exterminated as gods' punishment for becoming too secular. Therefore, in essence, the good Rabbi must also believe that Hitler and Eichmann were just humble servants of the lord carrying out his dirty work for him. By that mentality, the good Rabbi should propound that Eichmann should have been given a medal instead of the hangmans' noose after his capture and trial.
The "Left" doesn't "hate" Israel They hate its Nazi crucifixion of the Palestinians. In the same way - Ralph Nader, Gore Vidal, Barbara Ehrenreich, whomever doesn't "hate" America. They hate its heinous policies.
If the little shtoonk SLC "loves" Israel so much - why the hell doesn't he make aliyah there? 'Cause he doesn't really love it. He thinks the place sucks but he likes to posture as a shtoonk who loves it. Neurotic, psychotic, parasitical, fraudulent and inane.

This ought to go nowhere. Hagee's a slimeball, but the idea of Hitler being God's agent just goes with the territory of Christianity: we all do God's will whether we know it or not. It's one of the mysteries. I doubt that Hagee intended anti-Semitism by the comment. Even the "Jews Are Going to Hell" angle isn't any more biggity than, say, an Orthodox Jew disowning a child who marries a Gentile. There are tenets in any set of beliefs that's going to chafe against any and every other set of beliefs. (The belief that Salvation only comes through Christ is going to be a stumbling block for lots of people. Not just Jews. There's a passage in St. Mark that's absolutely terrifying in its exclusivity.)
