I Think You Mean "Shipping"

15 Jul 2008 11:12 am

If I ruled the internet, there would be a strict rule against writing that one was "moving to Boston". Instead, the right move is shipping up to Boston to facilitate the posting of Dropkick Murphys videos:

Also, while I've said bad things about Boston in the future and will doubtless say them again in the past, after my most recent visited I wanted to congratulate the MBTA on demonstrating good humor in coming up with the CharlieCard name.

Matt, please enjoy the flood of "WHY DON'T YOU PROOFREAD YOUR POSTS!" comments below.

That's about the only thing worth complimenting the MBTA on. If you wait long enough (and if you ride the T daily, you'll most likely have the time stuck on a delayed train), their next bad move is just around the corner...

hey rambling' boy why
don't you settle down
boston ain't your kind of town
there ain't no gold and there
ain't nobody like me

Given the context of the actual post you linked to, I think the strict rule should be against writing or saying that one is moving to or living in "Boston" when one is actually moving to or living in Cambridge.

Seriously?

'Jump Around' is better.

Matt's on a roll today. Must be all the Obamagen in the air he's breathing in.

i like Dropkick, but i'm just not sure how "hard" a band featuring a bagpipe player who goes by the name of "Spicey McHaggis" can be.

while I've said bad things about Boston in the future and will doubtless say them again in the past

Come on, that had to be intentional.

Proofread, hell, I want to know if Matt's invented time travel and if he's willing to share.

Agreed. Saying lots of bad things about Boston, claiming to be a former resident, while actually being a former resident of Cambridge, falls under the same category of lame.

I was too old to pay much attention to the mid-90s wave of thuggish Celtic-American retro-ska-punk-rap, and, after watching that video, I conclude that I didn't miss much. Yes, "Jump Around" is a better song; furthermore, "Sally MacLennane" crushes it like the proverbial grape.

"to facilitate the posting of Dropkick Murphys videos"

Why the devil would you want to do this?

Don't forget Matt, the Celts DVD goes on sale today!

You might guess from my handle that I have a fondness for Celtic music. I've never gotten into the Dropkick Murphys. Put me down for Flogging Molly -- the best band that's not the Pogues since Shane MacGowan left the Pogues. And I recommend the Real McKenzies -- what they do doesn't always work, but when it does, it's terrific. The Tossers also have their moments.

Just another bitter NY sports fan.

Speaking of CharlieCard, I hope you have heard of MIT's Richard Stallman who periodically holds CharlieCard exchange sessions at MIT, so that the "Big Brother" can't track people using these cards. He is the subject of much derision within the MIT community, though he does have supporters too. What do you think about it?

Matt,

What on earth do the Dropkick Murphys have to do with the CharlieCard? I chuckled when I saw the name, but don't see the connection.

Richard Stallman ... periodically holds CharlieCard exchange sessions at MIT... What do you think about it?

I fail to see the added value about having an opinion about it one way or the other. If you like it, participate. If you don't have the time or inclination, don't.

I, for one, don't really care what MattY thinks about it. I'm not sure why anyone else would care about MattY's opinion or anyone else's opinion. The CharlieCard exchange exists. What more is there to be said?

Because it's a chance to mention RMS, the original dirty fucking hippy?

Also, while I've said bad things about Boston in the future and will doubtless say them again in the past

uh-oh... somebody's been messing around with Doc Brown's DeLorean

Hunh! I'd been all impressed that Martin Scorsese knew enough about Celt-rock to include the Dropkick Murphys in The Depahhhhhted. Now I realize he just searched for songs with "Boston" in the title.

@Divguy: I agree! What intelligent person living in Cambridge would ever admit to being from Boston?

Say whatever you will about Boston; DC's got all of Boston's overgentrified preppy faults with Baltimore's neglected urban wasteland problems thrown in for good measure.

Also, while I've said bad things about Boston in the future and will doubtless say them again in the past,

This is awesome. I don't know if this is a typo or a really cool saying.

Does the fact that seeing the word "shipping" in this blog makes me think of writing a Matt/Megan fanfic mean that I spend way too much time in the Internet?

"Does the fact that seeing the word "shipping" in this blog makes me think of writing a Matt/Megan fanfic mean that I spend way too much time in the Internet?"

You only need to start worrying when you start writing Matt/Andrew slash fiction.

Matt/Andrew? Pshaw.
What we need is Ross Douthat/James Fallows slash fiction. That's where the real action is at.

Sorry, but I can't agree to give the MBTA props for the "CharlieCard" moniker if the wikipedia article is right and they passed over "The Fare Cod"...

What better thread for an obligatory Corrs post?

Let's see - shall we include the Chieftains? Oh, yes!
