McCain in Colombia

04 Jul 2008 10:43 pm

Steve Sailer makes jokes:

Why is John McCain in Colombia? The most reassuring theory I can come up with is that McCain intends to bring back a couple of sixty pound suitcases that the Secret Service will hustle for him through Customs. And soon Obama's big lead in campaign finance will have vanished. And there won't be anymore questions about McCain being too old to have the energy for the job as he starts campaigning 96 hours straight.

On the other hand, there are more alarming interpretations, such as that McCain is taking a serious interest in the geopolitical situation in Northern South America -- i.e., he wants to get us involved in a war there.

Given John McCain's legendary openness to the press, one might think that someone on the "straight talk express" would want to ask McCain which Latin American states, if any, fall under the scope of his "rogue state rollback" scheme. Cuba, presumably. But also Venezuela? Bolivia?

Maybe McCain is there to buy cocaine for his drug-addict HOMEWRECKING WHORE of a trophy wife. Maybe he's there because he thinks Colombia is a state. Maybe he's there because that's where his lobbyist girlfriend is hiding.

If it were Obama Sailer would have a deep psychological theory about how Obama wants to be the leader of the Third World to get back at whitey. These lame little jokes are Sailer's pretense at "playing fair."

Oh man, bad move. This will just lure that sniveling racist over here.

Matt, you degrade yourself and The Atlantic by quoting a racist like Steve Sailer.

I think, though, we first need an in-depth review of the IQ trends among different ranks of Colombians based on the percentage of perceived European versus Afro versus Indian race, and how there has been a clear neglect of this by ideologically straitjacketed social science community. Without this crucial insight, we won't be as able to say really bad things about white people who seem to like black people too much.

Come on, guys. When Steve Sailer says a presidential candidate is going to smuggle coke into the US, he is simply telling us sad but profound truths, which only someone with the toughness and integrity Sailer can do. It's not that he wants it to be true that McCain is smuggling china white into the country; and, lord knows, Sailer bears no personal animus against drug-running Republicans. Heavens, no. If he could make it so that drug-running Republicans didn't run drugs, he would do so in a heartbeat. But he has simply confronted the hard facts of the scientific data which reveal McCain to be a coke-head, which of course is not open to any other interpretation and it utterly free of any personal bias on Sailer's part at all. Sadly, our liberal guilt prevents us from seeing the deep, painful truth of John McCain's love for Bolivian marching powder, which is why he has been unfairly ostracized from the ranks of lefty-thought. It's tough, but such are the consequences of speaking truth to power.

Look, it's a good joke.

But isteve is a hate site, and it should be completely link-boycotted. Policing the limits of acceptable discourse is an important responsibility of high-traffic blogs.

That's the funniest thing I've read in quite some time, Freddie.

u should listen to komrade DivGuy!

Yikes. Don't encourage that troll. Even if he's not a racist, he's still a turd.

Why does he bring Graham and LIeberman everywhere? Are they the Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern of the campaign? Or the Turtle and Johnny Drama? I mean, I see how LIeberman brings the circa-2003 concern troll vibe to the table, but what on earth is Graham doing? I hope never to be in a position in life where Lindsey Graham is following me around, or if, God forbid, I'm following him.

On Steve Sailer: He's more of a troll than Don Williams or SLC or RSH. You shouldn't be giving him any links or even recognizing his existence.

On McCain: Why would he go to Colombia? Cindy likes pills, not power. But then maybe that was the reason for his trip to Canada.

maybe this is some weird equal time thing after all the Jesse Helms posts.

*powder

and sorry for the double post

Why is sailer quoted approvingly not just on this blog, but on Ross and Andrew's blogs as well? Is he partnered in some way with the Atlantic? Why else would all three of you admit to visiting that racist, raving lunatic's site?

Steve Sailer is a racist douchebag, but you have to give the devil his due; that shit was funny.

mad6798 asks: "Why is sailer quoted approvingly not just on this blog, but on Ross and Andrew's blogs as well? Is he partnered in some way with the Atlantic? Why else would all three of you admit to visiting that racist, raving lunatic's site?"

He's gotta be providing them all with recreational drugs. It's all-Sailer, all the time around here lately.

Maybe they monitor how many people come from Sailer's blog to Atlantic and vice versa. I know I click on Steve's name, which takes me to his site, every time I notice he left a comment on MY's blog.

Indeed it is. We need old man Fallows to stage an intervention.

Keep you forked tongue behind your teeth, Sailer.

Freddie: "china white" refers to heroin, which is more frequently manufactured in central and southeast asia! *the more you know* although IIRC cindy was snorthing prescription opiates, not cocaine, anyway..

his drug-addict HOMEWRECKING WHORE

MoeLarryAndJesus, why don't you just go away - we certainly don't need more bigots here, left or right.

Yeah Moe, there's no evidence that Cindy McCain has ever been a whore.

Gabriel - "There's no evidence that Cindy McCain has ever been a whore."

Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence.

Maybe McCain is there to buy cocaine for his drug-addict HOMEWRECKING WHORE of a trophy wife.

Hmmm... McCain let his first wife to pursue a wealthy heiress.

Remind me again which of the McCains is the whore?

Ha, ha.

FYI, Matt-- jokes about "drugs being the only reason to visit South American Country X" were a tired staple of of 1970s humor, and stopped being funny about the time you were born.

Well, on top of Sailer's pretty funny satire, the fact McCain is in South America is a welcome thing, and is an area of focus McCain has had a long time as a Border State Senator, and would continue to have if Obama is revealed as an empty suit and McCain is judged the better Presidental selection..

America, IMO, has spent far too much time and focus on Israel and several other shitty little ME countries and groups - at the expense, since the days of Bush I, of being all but derelict in paying proper attention to, and working with, Latin America on a range of issues and needs.

why did mccain go to columbia?
pretty obvious.
a cnn report, i believe, stated that bush got word of the hostage rescue operation about 10 days ago.
i would bet that mccain scheduled his trip to columbia right around then.
bush gets word of the operation, passes the info onto the mccain campaign and the campaign seizes upon the chance to exploit it politically.
the fact that it all happened on exactly the same day he was in columbia is just too much of a coincidence, to be a coincidence.
especially because bush KNEW it was going to happen that day.
what are the odds that bush DID NOT TELL MCCAIN?
republicans will exploit anything for political gain. why not exploit a hostage rescue?
being in columbia allowed him to appear presidential - he got a briefing on the situation from the columbians - and it allows him to stay connected to the one issue that he believes he has some traction on: terrorism.
lots of americans will simply hear the news of the hostages, the rescue and mccain and columbia and make some sort of connection in their heads, consciously or unconsciously.
he benefits in some slight way. and when your campaign is as deficient as his is, you take whatever positive you can get, wherever it presents itself.

McCain never met a war he didn't like; McCain is a war monger pure and simple.

McCain is just itching for more war; that's one reason why he doesn't worry about economics or domestic policy, because he doesn't believe that we will have a normal economy because he wants so much war.

McCain would be a disaster for this country.

novakant quotes and writes: "his drug-addict HOMEWRECKING WHORE

Go fuck yourself, you inane little hall monitor. I've never even seen your username before.

frankie d,

McCain went to Colombia, Obama is the one who went to Columbia-- for law school.

Speaking of Columbia (abrupt segue starts now), a property professor there, Michael Heller, just published a fascinating book: "The Gridlock Economy: How Too Much Ownership Wrecks Markets, Stops Innovation, and Costs Lives".

25 new runways would eliminate most air travel delays in America. Why can’t we build them? 50 patent owners are blocking a major drug maker from creating a cancer cure. Why won’t they get out of the way? 90% of our broadcast spectrum sits idle while American cell phone service lags far behind Japan’s and Korea’s. Why are we wasting our airwaves? 98% of African American–owned farms have been sold off over the last century. Why can’t we stop the loss? All these problems are really the same problem—one whose solution would jump-start innovation, release trillions in productivity, and help revive our slumping economy...

They haven't figured out the Mac.

Can you spell H-I-S-P-A-N-I-C V-O-T-E?

Go Mac, Go!!! Destroy the Obamatons!!!

Don't talk about something that you don't know.
Be intelligent not ignorant in your comments.
Colombia is not drugs. Go to Colombia explore this magical place and then come and make your comments.

Because they probably agree with him. Would they approvingly quote Jesse Helms? No. But for some reason, in their world, it's acceptable to quote a racist moron like SS.
