What Have I Done?

Via Robert Farley and Tbogg, it seems Roger Simon didn't really understand The Bridge on the River Kwai. Either that or Simon really is dissing John McCain's military service in a much more profound way than I've ever seen any Democrat do.

Your and your fellow liberal bloggers' insistence that a right winger should actually have some actual knowledge of a movie (and occasionally any actual historical context) in order to use it as they wish to either praise right wing themes or condemn liberalism is nothing more than a direct insult to John McCain's service record, and you should be ashamed of insulting the only man qualified to be President of this Nation.

Also, 300 proves conservative values are awesome somehow.

The "Don't Kwai for me, Roger Simon" cutline is classic!

Wait, so you are saying "Born in the USA" isn't a patriotic song?

My god Republicans are stupid.

Yes, John McCain also reminds me of Albinus from Nabokov's "Laughter in the Dark." Old man leaves his frail wife for a younger girl, yadda yadda yadda, stuff happens they go on vacations together, I assume everything works out well for him.

This suggests a new musical theme song for the McCain campaign.

Isn't there a lot of hostility on the right over McCain's service that rarely gets discussed? I mean if you hated the guy and you were told to toe the party line, then dropping in backhanded compliments, damming with faint praise and pretending to misunderstand the point of a movie would be one way to sneak it under the radar.

The other option is that he never saw the movie - seems possible but then how would you even know enough about it to hold it up as an example?

I guess the point about Born in the USA is well taken though too - some folks just ain't that bright.

The book or the movie? Because they are totally different.

I'm thinking the movie, since he specifically mentions the film and Sir Alec Guinness, and I'm pretty sure Alec Guinness wasn't in the book.

Goodness, Roger Simon really is dumb, as are most of his readers.

The scary thing is: they don't care if they've missed the point of the movie, all that matters is "character", "heroism", "leadership", divorced from any moral and pragmatic context - secondary virtues which were ubiquitous among members of, say, the Waffen-SS.

Either that or Simon really is dissing John McCain's military service in a much more profound way than I've ever seen any Democrat do.

Which gives rise to the question of why haven't any Democrats dissed McCain's "service."

Leaving aside the issue of how Max Clealand and John Kerrey were treated; the rest of the world has less than no use for the US military and is now in the process of doing something about it. And believe me when I tell you that they don't "support the troops."

I look forward to Roger Simons' next blog post in which he favorably compares McCain's manly attitude with Tyler Durden from Fight Club!

Oh, wait! I thought I was the only one who deserved to be criticized because I use movies and TV shows as illustrations of points (note: not as PROOFS of points.)

Was I wrong?
